Sergeant Benjamin T. Kemper graduated from Longview High School in 1993.  He then attended Kilgore College and went on to graduate from Sam Houston State University n 1997 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Spanish.

Sergeant Kemper joined the Longview Police Department in January 2002.  During his time with the department he has served as a patrol officer, bicycle officer, field training officer and on the Honor Guard.  Sergeant Kemper has also served on the Police Department Academy advisory board and policy review committee.  Sergeant Kemper is also fluent in Spanish.

In December 2005 he was selected to transfer to the Criminal Investigations Division where he served as a detective, primarily focusing on white collar crimes such as Forgery and Identity Theft.  On September 15, 2006 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, spending time on both Evening and Night shift as a patrol supervisor.  In October 2008, Sergeant Kemper was selected by Chief McCaleb to serve in the Office of Professional Standards.
