Lt. Carlos Samples

Lieutenant Carlos Samples is a native of Kilgore, Texas and a graduate of Sabine High School. Lieutenant Samples is a veteran of the United States Air Force and a Graduate of the University of Texas at Tyler with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. While attending UT Tyler, Lieutenant Samples was named a Martin Luther King Scholar. He is also a graduate of the ILEA School of Police Supervision (2001).
Lieutenant Samples began his career with the Longview Police Department in March 1987, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in December 2000, and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in October 2008.
During his career Lieutenant Samples has served as a Patrol Officer , Field Training Officer, Field Training Sergeant, and District Sergeant in the Patrol Division, Detective in the Narcotics Division, Task Force Officer with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Sergeant of the Planning & Research Section, and Sergeant of the Training & Recruiting Section.
Lieutenant Samples has served on various departmental committees and he has received numerous commendations. He was selected as Outstanding Rookie of the Year in 1987.
Lieutenant Samples is assigned as the District "B" Commander on 3rd Watch. He is responsible for the law enforcement activities within District "B" 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He is also a Master Police Officer and TCLEOSE Instructor.
